Omaha Famous #49

Local music, food, and people, you should know

Cascio’s Steak HouseStill There Since 1946

If you are looking for a place to take that special someone this Friday for Valentine’s, and if perhaps that special someone is over 80 years old, then you should really consider this Omaha staple – CASCIO’s. Personally, I have never been, but it has been around since 1946 so they must be doing something right.

I wanted to highlight a steakhouse for Valentine’s Day, because it just has this classic Americana tradition to it. But it turns out the most well-received steakhouses in Omaha these days are actually chains, namely J.Gilberts, and 801 Chophouse. I mean, how pathetic is that? 100 years of the best steak in the country, and two upscale chains come in and take the crown. For shame! And honestly, it looks well-deserved, 801 and J.Gilberts look phenomenal and people rave about them. I just think it’s a bummer that these old dogs couldn’t hold the line, but hey that’s the business.

I mean just check out Cascio’s website. If the restaurant was started in 1946, the website may have been created shortly thereafter. But I digress…

I highlighted Cascio’s because I think they are the oldest one out there, and that’s an impressive feat in this town.

I really would like to check this place and others out, but when you are single, and not wealthy, who has time for a steakhouse? Honestly. It’s either a special occasion with your boo, or some executive schmoozing before that big merger with a bunch of old dudes. Maybe someday I’ll treat myself.

But you should treat yourself, and if you have a special someone in your life, you should treat them too, this Friday. Because love is precious. And so is steak. Precious steak love.
